In the matter of ensuring its security by declaring Ram Setu as a national monument, the Supreme Court said that after the completion of the hearing of the constitution bench, the court will hear the demand to declare Ram Setu as a national monument.  Before the bench of CJI Justice DY Chandrachud, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy pleaded for an urgent hearing and said that the situation in the Ram Setu case is at the final stage.  There is an urgent need for hearing on this.  In response, the bench said that after the hearing in the constitution bench, the court will hear the matter.
However, the Modi government has already clarified its stand on the Ramsetu issue.  The government had filed its affidavit in the Supreme Court about the Setu Samudram project and Ram Setu and said that no harm would be done to Ram Setu for the proposed Setu Samudram project to facilitate the movement of ships in the sea.  The government will find some other alternative route for the project.  Swamy has said in his petition that Ram Setu is related to the faith of lakhs of Hindus, so it should not be broken.  Also, Ramsetu should be declared a national heritage.
