The Ministry of Finance has released the provisional data of Direct Tax Collections which shows a spectacular acceleration in tax collection. Direct tax collection in FY 2022-23 stood at Rs 15.67 lakh crore, up 24.09 per cent from the previous year. These are the direct tax collection figures for February 10, 2023.
Direct tax collection after issuance of refunds to taxpayers stood at Rs 12.98 lakh crore, up 18.40 per cent over the same period last fiscal. Direct tax collection is 91.39 per cent of the budget estimates and 78.65 per cent of the revised estimates for 2022-23, the finance ministry said.
According to the finance ministry, a total of Rs 2.69 lakh crore has been issued between April 1, 2022 and February 10, 2023, up 61.58 per cent from the same period last fiscal. The government had set a target of direct tax collection of Rs 14.20 lakh crore in 2022-23.
