Great runner PT Usha has been elected as the new president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The deadline for filing nominations for the IOA elections expired on November 27 (Sunday). Since only PT Usha had filed nomination papers for the post of president, she was elected unopposed. In the 95-year history of the IOA, PT Usha is the first Olympian to assume the presidency. PT Usha is also the first player to assume the IOA presidency after Maharaja Yadavinder Singh.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has congratulated PT Usha on her election as IOA President. “Congratulations to PT Usha on her election as the President of the Indian Olympic Association. I also congratulate all the sporting heroes of our country on becoming office bearers of the IOA. The country is proud of her.'
