CJI DY Chandrachud: The next Chief Justice of India will be DY Chandrachud. The President of the country, Draupadi Murmu, has appointed him as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court with effect from 9 November 2022, using the powers conferred by the Constitution. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju gave this information by tweeting.
Justice Chandrachud will take oath as Chief Justice on November 9, a day after the incumbent CJI Uday Umesh Lalit retires on attaining 65 years of age. Justice Lalit had a brief tenure of 74 days, while Justice Chandrachud's tenure as CJI would be of two years. Justice Chandrachud will retire on November 10, 2024.
