Geetanjali Shree: Geetanjali Shree becomes first Indian to win International Booker Prize, Hindi novel Tomb of Sand gets the honor

Delhi-based writer Geetanjali Shree's Hindi novel 'Tomb of Sand' has been selected for the prestigious International Booker Prize.  It is the first book in any Indian language to have received this honour.  Geetanjali Shree was given this honor at a function in London on Thursday (26 May 2022).  On this occasion, Geetanjali Shree said that she is absolutely overwhelmed to receive the honour. She said that , 'I never dreamed of Booker, I never thought I could do it.  What a great recognition, I am amazed, delighted, honored and humbled.' The prize is accompanied by a medallion and 50,000 GBP.  
Gitanjali Shree, 64, author of three novels and several story collections, has translated her books into English, French, German, Serbian and Korean.  Originally published in Hindi in 2018, 'Tomb of Sand' is her first book to be published in English in the UK by Tilted Axis Press in August 2021.
