For the first time in the Indian Army, women officers have become fighter pilots.  Captain Abhilasha Barak became the first woman officer to join the Army Aviation Corps as a Combat Aviator.  After completing the Combat Army Aviation course, Abhilasha was awarded Wings (Certificate of Flying).  She will now become an army helicopter pilot.  Captain Abhilasha received wings along with 36 army pilots at a program held at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik.Captain Abhilasha hails from Haryana.  She was commissioned into the Army Aviation Defense Corps in September 2018.  Her father Col S Om Singh (retd) was in the 8-Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry.  Till now, women in Army Aviation were only in ATC i.e. ground duty.  For the first time, women officers have got a chance to become helicopter pilots in the army.  15 women officers had applied for helicopter pilot training, out of which two were selected.  After completing six months of army aviation training, Captain Abhilasha has now become a pilot.
