Justice Ujjal Bhuyan to be the new Chief Justice of Telangana High Court

 Ujjal Bhuiyan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.  On Tuesday, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that Justice Bhuiyan, a judge of the Telangana High Court, be elevated as Chief Justice.

 Justice Bhuyan will replace Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.  The collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Sharma to the Delhi High Court.
 On October 11, 2021, Justice Sharma was sworn in as the Chief Justice.  In the same month, Justice Bhuyan was sworn in as a judge of the Telangana High Court.  In addition, he serves as the Executive Chairman of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority.  Justice Bhuyan has previously served in the Bombay High Court before being appointed to the Telangana High Court.  He obtained LL.B from Government Law College, Guwahati and LL.M from Gauhati University.  He was born on August 2, 1964 in Guwahati.
 In 1991, he became a member of the Bar Councils of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.  He had practiced in front of the principal seat of the Gauhati High Court.
 In 2011, he was appointed as the Additional Advocate General of Assam.  He was a member of Guwahati High Court Bar Association, Guwahati Lawyers Association, Bar Association of India, All India Federation of Tax Practitioners and Assam Chapter of Indian Law Institute.
