India becomes third country to eradicate trachoma in Southeast Asia

According to information available on the World Health Organization website (World Health Organization), the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr.  Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “India has eliminated trachoma as a public health problem.  Because of this, people in the country will no longer be blind due to trachoma.  Trachoma is one of the leading causes of blindness globally.  WHO has worked closely with India to achieve this.  For this, the government, health workers and partners deserve congratulations, who have collaborated to make it possible.  The World Health Organization has given India WHO recognition for elimination of Trachoma as a public health problem.
