The world's second largest diamond has been discovered in the African country of Botswana.  This diamond is 2492 carats.  The diamond has been mined in Botswana by a Canadian mining company.  The diamond was discovered using X-ray technology at the Karowe Diamond Mine in northeastern Botswana, Lukara Diamond Corp. said in a statement on Thursday.  Lucara did not mention the value of the discovery or its merits.  But in terms of carats, the diamond is second only to the 3,016-carat Cullinan Diamond, discovered in South Africa in 1905.  The diamond found in Botswana is only 524 carats smaller than the world's largest.
