Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Japanese PM Fumio Kishida on Monday. The two held extensive discussions to expand the India-Japan strategic partnership in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. After the discussion, PM Modi held a joint press conference with the Japanese Prime Minister. "First of all, I extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Kishida and his delegation to India," Modi told a press conference here. Over the past year, Prime Minister Kishida and I have met several times. And every time, I have felt his positivity and commitment to India-Japan relations. Therefore, his visit today will be very useful to maintain the momentum of our mutual cooperation.
"Our meeting today is special for another reason," Modi said. This year India is chairing the G20, and Japan the G7. And so, this is an excellent opportunity to work together on your respective priorities and interests. Today, I briefed Prime Minister Kishida on the priorities of India's G20 Presidency. An important pillar of our G20 presidency is giving voice to the priorities of the Global South. The culture that believes in “Vasudevam Kutumbkam” believes in bringing everyone together, and that is why we have taken this initiative.
