First cross-border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh launched

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, a cross-border energy pipeline, through video conferencing.  Addressing the programme, PM Modi said, “I am confident that this pipeline will further accelerate the development of Bangladesh and become an excellent example of growing connectivity between the two countries.”
This is the first cross-border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 377 crore, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.  The Bangladesh section of the pipeline has been completed at a cost of about Rs 285 crore.  These amounts have been borne by the Government of India under grant assistance.
 On the occasion of the inauguration of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, PM Modi said, "Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in India-Bangladesh relations. We laid the foundation stone of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline in September 2018. And I am pleased that today."  I have the opportunity to inaugurate it with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I am confident that this pipeline will further accelerate the development of Bangladesh, and will also be an excellent example of the growing connectivity between the two countries.
