International Desk:
Dr S Jaishankar to China Foreign Minister: A meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India and China took place amid the ongoing tension on the border for the last 3 years.  Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who came to Delhi to attend the G-20 meeting, and told him the sentiments of the whole country.  He bluntly said that the relations between the two countries are going through an 'abnormal' phase and cannot be normal without peace on the border.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Jaishankar said, 'This is our first meeting after he (Qin Gang) became the foreign minister.  We discussed with each other for about 45 minutes.  Broadly, the discussion was about the current state of our relationship, which most of you must have heard is unusual.'
He said, 'And this (unusual) was also among the adjectives I used in the meeting.  There are some real problems in the relationship, which need to be addressed and spoken openly.  The Foreign Minister said that bilateral relations were discussed in general in the meeting.  Our talks focused on current challenges to bilateral relations, especially peace in the border areas.  We also talked about the agenda of G-20.
Jaishankar (Dr S Jaishankar) had met the then Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of a G-20 meeting held in Bali about eight months ago.  During that time he had conveyed to Wang the need for early resolution of all pending issues in East Ladakh.  He told Wang Yi that relations between the two countries should be based on mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interests.
