IRS officer Ravi Agarwal was appointed as the new head of CBDT

Ravi Agarwal, a 1988 batch IRS officer, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the administrative body of the Income Tax Department.
 He will replace 1986-batch Indian Revenue Service officer Nitin Gupta, whose extended tenure as chairman ends on Sunday, June 30.
 Gupta was appointed CBDT chief in June,  He was due to retire in September last year, but was given a nine-month extension until June.
 The new CBDT chief is currently serving as Member (Administration) in the Board.
