October 2 is a very special date in India as Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were born on this day.  Both these figures will remain relevant throughout the history of India to the present and in the future to come.  Born on October 2, Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, fondly called Bapu, is on the other side of the country's second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, known as Guddi Ke Lal.

The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti and the birthday of Lal Bahadur Shastri is celebrated as Shastri Jayanti.  On one side is Mahatma Gandhi who played an important role in India's freedom struggle by following the path of truth and non-violence, while on the other side is Lal Bahadur Shastri whose life is seen as an example of simplicity.  Shastri had shown a new way to the people by appealing to fast one day a week during the food crisis in the country.
