Purnima Devi Barman, an Indian biologist and wildlife conservationist, has also been named in Time magazine's 'Woman of the Year' list this year. 45-year-old Burman is the only Indian woman in this list of 13 women of 2025 along with actress Nicole Kidman and France's Gisele Pellicot. Thanks to Barman's work, in the year 2023, the dhenuk (a type of bird) was removed from the endangered status under the International Union for Conservation of Nature's classification and brought to the 'near threatened' category.
