The Assam government has decided to teach the Maitei script in all educational institutions in the state.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
The meeting decided to teach Maitei or Manipuri Mayek script in all educational institutions in the state.
The Chief Minister said that this would make the children interested in reading the literature of Manipur and not only that in the near future if they wished, they could also pursue higher education in this field.
He said this would enable students studying in Assam to apply for jobs in Manipur where such education is compulsory.
Besides, the Cabinet has decided to provide 6 per cent reservation for economically backward children in all medical colleges in the state.  The Assam Medical Rule will also be implemented in the coming days.
