Pratapgarh MP Sangam Lal Gupta had recently demanded to change the name of Lucknow to Laxman Nagari or Laxmanpuri.  The BJP MP had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding a name change.  Now President Draupadi Murmu has told the connection of Lucknow with Lord Laxman.
The President said, "It is said that this city was named after Lord Rama's younger brother Lakshmana. Till the end of the 19th century, the tradition of calling this city Lakhanpur continued.  On the other hand, it is a major center of culture, literature and art skills even in modern times."
