Indian Navy receives first indigenous diving support vessel ‘Nistar’

On 8 July 2025, Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam handed over the first indigenous diving support vessel 'Nistar' to the Indian Navy. This ship has been designed and built in India itself. It will enhance the capability of rescue operations in deep sea. 'Nistar' is a warship built for deep sea diving and rescue operations. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word 'Nistar', which means liberation, rescue or salvation. It is a ship with special technology possessed by only a few selected navies of the world.
