Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice DY Chandrachud is in the news these days for not vacating the government accommodation. The issue took an emotional turn when he cited the serious illness of his daughters as the reason for this. He said that his daughters Priyanka and Mahi are suffering from a rare and serious genetic disease - nemaline myopathy, due to which they need special medical facilities all the time.
Nemaline myopathy is a rare genetic muscle disorder that primarily affects skeletal muscles. In this, thread-like structures (nemaline bodies) are formed in the muscles, which hinder normal movement and functioning.
Justice Chandrachud recently told in a workshop that the condition of his elder daughter Priyanka is more serious and she is dependent on a tracheostomy tube. To protect her from infection, she needs a clean, safe and controlled environment, due to which her government residence has been converted into an ICU-like facility.
