Goa is celebrating its vibrant Shigmo Festival, a two-week cultural extravaganza that began on March 15 and continues till March 29. The annual festival marks the arrival of spring in the Konkan region and features colourful parades, folk dances and other cultural performances that showcase the state's rich traditions.

Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte emphasised the festival's significance as part of Goa's heritage. "Goa has two festivals that are celebrated as heritage. One is Carnival and the other is Shigmo. Carnival has just ended, which was celebrated with great fun and fervour. Now we are celebrating Shigmo, which lasts for 15 days and is celebrated in about 18 different constituencies... Shigmo festival is our tradition and cultural heritage," he said. Locally known as Shigmotsav, the festival has long been an important part of the state's celebrations and is seen as a way to honour the cultural and spiritual significance of spring.  The Hindu community in Goa celebrates this festival in the month of Phalguna, which coincides with the spring season.
