Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held discussions on promoting comprehensive regional economic development and strengthening historical ties between the two neighbours.
Sarma, who is on a four-day visit at the invitation of the Bhutanese King, also met the host country's Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay on the second day of his visit and attended Bhutan's National Day celebrations in the morning.
The Chief Minister met the Bhutanese King and discussed strengthening historical ties between Assam and Bhutan and furthering collaborative efforts between the two regions, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a statement here.
"The discussions also focused on promoting Bhutan's development, enhancing the welfare of its people and promoting comprehensive regional economic development," it said.
"With utmost honour and privilege, Riniki and I met His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and His Majesty Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan at the Golden Throne Room at Tashichodzong in Thimpu," Sarma said in a post on Twitter. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma is the wife of the Assam chief minister.
