Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sanjay Kumar Verma was appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra on Tuesday, replacing Rashmi Shukla. Shukla has been removed from the post of DGP on the direction of the Election Commission, An official said. Verma, who is serving as Director General (Law and Technology), is a 1990 batch IPS officer, the official said. He will retire in April .Following complaints from major opposition parties ahead of the November 20 Assembly polls in Maharashtra, the Election Commission on Monday directed the removal of Shukla from the post of state police chief with immediate effect.
