Government declares Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka and Choolannuar in Kerala as Peacock Sanctuary

The central government has officially declared Adichunchangiri in Karnataka and Chullannur in Kerala as peacock sanctuaries.  Adichunchangiri in Mandya district was first notified in 1981 and declared in 1999, while Chulannur peacock sanctuary in Palakkad district was declared in 1996.
 Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav highlighted measures to conserve the national bird peacock, including setting up of breeding and conservation centers for peacocks.
