More than 2,000 people have been buried in a landslide in Papua New Guinea.  This information was quoted by the government.  The government has sought international help to deal with the disaster.
The number of casualties is rising.  Initially, it was said that about 100 people had been killed.  Australia is preparing to send aircraft and other equipment to help Papua New Guinea.
 Overnight rain in the South Pacific nation's mountains has raised fears that the rubble in which hundreds of villagers are buried could become dangerously unstable.
