IM P Shyam Nikhil became the 85th Indian to win the Grandmaster title at the Dubai Police Masters 2024 on Sunday, May 12.  He played a draw with GM Jinshi Bai (CHN) in the final round to secure his final GM-norm.  Shyam earned his first GM-norm in September 2011 at the fourth Mumbai Mayor's Cup.  In the following months, he achieved his second GM-criterion at the 46th National Premier 2011 .  Five months later, in May 2012, he received a published rating of 2,502.  Some of their criteria were missed and canceled for technical reasons.  They had to achieve their final GM-norm outside India.  12 years later in Dubai, the same place where he crossed the 2500 mark in 2012, he became a grandmaster.
