People around the world celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day together on May 8 every year. This special day has become a program around the world to appreciate the important ideas of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. We use this day to remember Henry Dunant. He started the International Committee of the Red Cross. He was the first person to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Every year, this World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day has a special theme. On this day everyone is encouraged to do something good for peace. The theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2024 is “I give with joy, and the joy I give is a reward.” This theme puts the focus on the joys and rewards that come from engaging in humanitarian work and supporting the mission of the Red Cross.
