Newsdesk:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the construction of four dams in the Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary in Haryana following a report by the Indian Wildlife Institute.  Granting the stay, the court said their construction would adversely affect wildlife populations and ecosystems.

WII found that the construction of four dams in Haryana's Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary - Chikan Dam, Kansli Dam, Ambavali Dam and Khillanwala "will be determinant not only for the wildlife population but also for the ecosystem."

The report also stated that these dams are unlikely to achieve the intended objectives.  The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and the Chief Wildlife Warden concurred with the opinion of WII in communication dated 01.08.2019.
