Saraswati Puja : Today is Basant Panchami

Today the festival of Basant Panchami is being celebrated with great pomp across the country.  Fairs are also being organized at many places.  According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month.  This year, on Basant Panchami Tithi, Revati and Ashwini Nakshatra is being formed along with Ravi Yoga.  On this day, there is a tradition to worship Goddess Saraswati properly.  According to mythological beliefs, Mother Saraswati appeared on this day.  On this day, the creator of the universe Brahma ji had revealed Saraswati ji.  Goddess Saraswati was seated in a lotus and adorned with four hands.  Veena was in one hand, book in the other, rosary in the third and the fourth was in the groom posture.  In such a situation, Lord Brahma named her Goddess Saraswati.  Along with this, the best of the seasons, spring, also begins from this day.  On this day, along with worshiping Goddess Saraswati, offering yellow colored food is considered auspicious, because yellow color is very dear to the mother.  In such a situation, on this day, along with worshiping Goddess Saraswati, offer her yellow colored food along with yellow colored garlands and clothes.
