In the final match played at Melbourne Park on January 28 (Sunday), Sinner defeated third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4, 6-3. Sinner is the first Italian player to win this title. The final match lasted for three hours and 44 minutes.
In the final match, fourth seed Sinner was initially seen struggling against the Russian player, but as the match progressed, he started gaining momentum. After losing the first two sets, Sinner broke Medvedev's dream by winning the last three sets. Medvedev has lost in the final match for the third time in the Australian Open. He missed winning the title in 2021 and 2022 also.
Sinner had reached a Grand Slam final for the first time and he won in the very first final. If seen, a new champion has been seen in Australian Open men's singles after 10 years. Last time in 2014, Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland did this feat. Since 2014, only Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal were becoming champions.
