On the occasion of Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Supreme Court, CJI DY Chandrachud said that today is a very important day. The Supreme Court was started on 28 January 1950. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had said that whenever any decision has to be taken, then think about the person standing on the margins of the society and decide whether a particular decision is going to benefit him in any way. Since the establishment of SC, we have been taking decisions keeping in mind what Gandhiji said. Through the decisions taken in the judicial administrative sector, we have tried to ensure that people get justice.
CJI said that now the court is moving towards completely paperless. Instead of the burden of papers, you can now file a case with one click. The Supreme Court is soon planning to transfer digital data to cloud base infrastructure. He said that the e-Filing facility will be launched in May 2023. So far 1 lakh 28 thousand e-filings have been done.
Even after Corona, hearing continued through video conferencing. Today, sitting in any corner of the world, a lawyer can cross-examine before the Supreme Court.
The CJI said that due to live streaming of Constitution Bench hearings, people's curiosity about the working of the court has increased. Our country is currently going through social and demographic changes. The number of women is increasing in operation theatre, border, naval commander, Supreme Court. There are 36 women participating in the District Judiciary. 41% of law clerks in SC are women. In the last 74 years before 2024, only 12 women lawyers got the status of senior advocate, but last week we together gave the status of senior advocate to 11 women.
