Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inspected the ongoing construction of the statue  Lachit Barphukan, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
 During his visit to Ram Sutar Fine Arts Private Limited on Saturday evening, Sarma personally oversaw the physical progress of the colossal sculpture dedicated to the legendary warrior.  The statue, reaching a height of 84 meters, is composed of a bronze and steel structure weighing an impressive 95 tonnes.
 The Government of Assam has entrusted the esteemed project to veteran sculptor and Padma Bhushan awardee, Ram Vanji Sutar.  Sarma commended the eminent sculptor for his unwavering dedication to his craft, despite his advanced age of 98 years.
Sarma took to Twitter, stating, "Today I reviewed the progress of the world's largest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan currently being built in Ghaziabad. We are honored that veteran sculptor & Padma Bhushan awardee, respected Ram Sutar ji is overseeing this effort. He has."  crafted some of the most iconic monuments in the country including the Statue of Unity."
