National Desk:
Vistara may merge with Air India.  On Tuesday, Singapore Airlines reached an agreement with Tata leader Ratan Tata's company.  The merger process will be completed by the month of March next year, it has been informed by the two organizations.  The move to consolidate business with Air India is aimed at making Vistara, the joint venture of Singapore Airlines (SIA) with the Tatas, more active in the competitive market.
Apart from leveraging infrastructure and resources and reducing costs, a merger of the two Tata-owned companies could also bring benefits in the field of air services, according to a section of officials in the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.  If the plan is implemented, Tatara will be able to beat IndiGo, the country's number one airline.  This month, Singapore Airlines said that talks between Tata and SIA are underway.  Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, operates domestic and international air services.
Tata Sons and SIA said after the merger, SIA will hold 25.1 per cent stake (estimated at Rs 5,000 to 10,000 crore).  In October last year, the Tata group took control of the state-owned airline Air India.  After 68 years, the Tatras regained ownership of Air India as the 'Department of Privatization and Control of State Owned Enterprises' under the Union Finance Ministry approved the Rs 18,000 crore tender submitted by Tata Sons for the privatization of Air India.  After this, the merger of Air India and Vistara started.
