In the wake of the Ukraine war, Washington has warned about New Delhi-Moscow relations.  On Friday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said, "Our message to India and other countries is that we do not want to see their Russia dependence on defense.  We are clearly discouraging them. "
He also said that the US was committed to enhancing its strategic partnership with India in the field of defense and to pave the way for further military cooperation in the future.  As well as Kirby's announcement, the United States has always valued India's role in the security of the Indian Ocean region.  However, a section of the diplomatic community is of the opinion that there is a hidden warning behind this hymn of the Pentagon spokesman.
New Delhi has not yet taken a direct part in the Russia-Ukraine war.  India's envoy to the United Nations has condemned the massacre of Russian troops in Bucharest.  The United States and the West have abstained from voting on Russia.  In the aftermath of the war, the Russian foreign minister visited India and discussed oil sales.  In this case, India did not agree to the financial sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries, including the United States.  A number of State Department officials believe that Biden's government is trying to block the "balance of diplomacy" with the "message" of severing the defense agreement with Russia.

Biden's predecessor in the US presidency, Donald Trump, has also expressed outrage in the past over the Narendra Modi government's move to buy S-400 Triumph anti-missile systems from Russia.  A recent report released after US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland's visit to India said that New Delhi was under constant pressure from Russia not to buy arms and military equipment.  But because of the high cost of 'alternatives', those efforts are not working.
