Odia poet Pratibha Satpathy got Gangadhar National Award

Renowned Odia poet Pratibha Satpathy was  conferred the Gangadhar National Poetry Award for 2023 by Sambalpur University on January 5. The award be presented on the occasion of the 58th Foundation Day of Sambalpur University. Sahitya Akademi Awardee Satpathy rose to fame with 'Shesha Jan' in the 1960s.
Her Odia works have been translated into many Indian and foreign languages. The award, named after renowned Odia poet Gangadhar Meher, was instituted by the university in 1989 and is presented every year during its Foundation Day celebrations.
Sambalpur University Registrar Nripraj Sahu said the award carries a citation, shawl and a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000.  Earlier, the Gangadhar National Award for excellence in the field of poetry had been awarded to eminent personalities including Gulzar, Ali Sardar Jafri, Kedarnath Singh, Ayyappa Panikkar, Shakti Chattopadhyay, K Satchidanandan, Dilip Chitre and Jayanta Mahapatra.
