Internationaldesk:
A remote fishing town on the edge of Peru's coastal desert, where a third of residents have no access to drinking water, is being turned into a giant deep-water port to meet China's growing interest in resource-rich South America  to be benefited from.
Chanke Megaport, is a $1.3 billion project majority-owned by Chinese shipping giant COSCO.  It is turning this haven of fishing boats into an important center of the global economy.
From the presidential palace in Lima, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the port opening ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping watched a livestream of the ribbon-cutting with his Peruvian counterpart Dina Boluart late Thursday.
