In southern Iran, the weather station near Derestan airport recorded a heat index of 82.2°C (180°F). If the temperature in this area is confirmed to rise to this extent, it will be the highest temperature index ever recorded on earth. Thursday’s air temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) and relative humidity of 85% resulted in this shocking heat index, according to US National Weather Service data.
