BJP MP Jagdambika Pal appointed JPC president

Senior BJP MP Jagdambika Pal was on Tuesday appointed chairperson of the Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC), which will probe the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill.  Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appointed Jagdambika Pal as the head of the 31-member committee, a notification said.  Amid protests by the Opposition in the Lok Sabha over its provisions, the government had decided to refer the bill to a joint committee of both houses.
