Iga Swiatek beat Aryana Sabalenka 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday to win her third Italian Open title, with the Pole in a showdown between the top two in the women's rankings after winning the Madrid Open earlier this month Once again at the top.
The title was the 21st of Swietek's career as the world number one warned her rivals ahead of this month's French Open, where she is a three-time champion.
Swietek broke Sabalenka's serve twice in the first set, where the Belarusian made 12 unexpected errors in an unbalanced start to the match. Sabalenka fought back to five break points to take a 2-0 lead in the second, but Swietek held her serve.
