The world of Yakshagana, the traditional theater form of Karnataka, has lost a great figure.  Senior and famous yakshagana 'Bhagavat' (background singer) Subramanya Dhareshwar passed away in Bangalore.  He was 66 years old.
Born on September 5, 1957 in Kirimanjeshwar in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district, Dhareshwar came from a family closely associated with yakshagana.  His father, Laxminarayan Bhatt, was an amateur yakshagana performer, which instilled in him a passion for the art from an early age.
Dhareshwar was a disciple of the famous yakshagana 'Bhagavat' late Naranappa Uppura.  He entered the world of professional Yakshagana singing at the age of 21 and mesmerized the audience with his sweet and rich voice.
