Newsdesk:
A portion of the roof outside the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam collapsed on Sunday due to a sudden storm following heavy rains. Although no injuries were reported in the incident, the collapse of a part of the roof forced the Adani Group-run airport authorities to halt operations for some time and divert six flights.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a portion of the roof suddenly falling, with passengers and airport staff running to save themselves. In other videos, airport staff can be seen trying to drain out water from the premises.
According to the agency, Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Barua said that due to the storm, a big tree was uprooted in the Oil India complex outside the airport and traffic on a road was stopped. He said that this tree was very old and could not withstand the storm. Due to this the roof broke and water started flowing inside. However, no one was hurt and everything is under control.
