Nationaldesk:
Former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph on Saturday hit out at the media, saying it has failed to protect democracy, the Constitution and truth.
Justice (Retd) Joseph said that one does not get any fearless and true version of the facts emerging and the biggest blow to democracy is that the fourth estate has failed the country.
“Before the conference, we discussed many things, but the things we discussed, do we read them in any media, do we see them in any electronic media except some private media in digital media,” he said.  He was speaking at a seminar organized by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJAR) here.
He also made a strong call for the protection of whistleblowers, whom he called the “fifth estate.”
“We did not find any bold, truthful version of the facts that emerged.  The biggest blow to democracy is that the fourth estate has failed the country.  Forget about the first three columns.  The fourth pillar is the media and they have failed to protect democracy.  They have failed to protect the Constitution.  They have failed to protect the truth,” Justice Joseph said.
