Big decision of Assam government, abolished Muslim Marriage Act

Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma government has taken a big decision in Assam.  Assam government has canceled the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act.  The Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act of 1930 has been cancelled.  Now all marriages in Assam will take place under the Special Marriage Act.  Big step by Assam government towards Uniform Civil Code.  With the repeal of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act of 1930, the Assam government has removed 94 registrars working to register marriages under this Act.  All of them have been removed from their posts after paying a lump sum of Rs 2 lakh.
