Uniform Civil Code: The debate is going on regarding the implementation of CAA in the eastern states of the country, Assam and West Bengal. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has completed preparations to implement the Uniform Citizenship Code. It is believed that UCC can also be introduced and passed in the budget session of Uttarakhand Assembly.
The tenure of the Expert Committee constituted under the chairmanship of retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai in May 2022 for the draft of Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand completed on January 26. The committee has prepared the draft of UCC in two languages. According to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the government may present the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Assembly on 6 February 2024. For this, a special session of Uttarakhand Assembly has been called from 5 February to 8 February 2024. CM Dhami has also said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to implement UCC.
