Bhogali Bihu 2024: Bihu festival is celebrated 3 times a year.  Bihu is a major festival of the north-eastern state, especially in Assam, it has special significance.  In Assam, the auspicious time of harvest and marriage begins with this day.
Bhogali Bihu (Magh Bihu) is celebrated in the middle of the month of January.  Magh Bihu festival is dedicated to Agni Dev.  This harvest related festival is celebrated as Makar Sankranti in other states of India.  Let us know the date and significance of Magh Bihu 2024 this year--

 Magh Bihu 2024 Date:

 The first of the year i.e. Magh Bihu (Bhogali Bihu) will be celebrated on 16 January 2024, this festival is celebrated throughout the week.  The festival also includes traditional Assamese games such as Tekeli Bhonga (pot-breaking) and buffalo fighting.  Earlier this festival was celebrated for the entire month of Magh, hence it was known as Magh Bihu.
 
 How is Magh Bihu celebrated?
 On the day of Magh Bihu, people prepare a house (hut) made of bamboo and grass, which is called Meji or Bhelghar.  At night, people gather around the bonfire and prepare various dishes called 'Uruka'.  During this period, there is a tradition of preparing and eating various traditional dishes throughout the week.  Dishes like Pitha,laru, doi-sira,kumol sawl,sunga pitha,tel pitha,ghila pitha, Mas Pitika, Bengena Khar and many more are made using sesame, coconut, rice, milk.
