Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu is on a five-day visit to China.  During his meeting with President Xi Jinping, he described China as his close ally and development partner.
The complete details of the conversation that took place during the meeting between Jinping and Muijju have not been made public.  But Muizzu's office said that during this period, 20 important agreements have been signed between the two governments.  These agreements were made regarding investment in tourism, disaster risk reduction, marine economy, digital economy as well as Belt and Road Initiative.
During this meeting, Chinese President Jinping called Muijju an old friend.  Jinping said that China wants to further strengthen bilateral relations with Maldives and take the relations between the two countries to a new level.
Apart from talks with Xi Jinping, Muizzu is likely to meet Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and other senior officials.  Let us tell you that Muijju had reached Beijing on Tuesday night.  Here he was given a grand welcome and he was given a 21-gun salute.
Amidst the ongoing trend of Boycott Maldives in India, Muizzu has appealed to China to send more and more Chinese tourists to Maldives.  While addressing the Maldives Business Forum in Fujian province on Tuesday, Muizzu had said that before Covid, most of the tourists coming to our country were from China.  I request that China should again intensify its efforts to do this.
