Sunday was not a good day for Maldivian politics.  President Mohammad Moizzu, who came to power on the basis of anti-India sentiments, had to backfire to such an extent that three of his own key ministers had to be dismissed.  The special thing is that till now these faces had played an important role in the election victory of Moijju, who had to be removed amid increased pressure after making objectionable remarks on PM Modi.  Seeing the strong reaction not from the Indian Government, but from the Indians, the Government of Maldives took this step.
India had presented its views to the government of Maldives regarding the controversial statements of three ministers.  After this, the Maldivian government has removed ministers Malsha Sharif, Maryam Shiuna and Abdulla Mahzoom Majeed from their posts.  Maldives' Atoll Times reports that the ministers who stoked the controversy have been removed.
Maryam Shiuna had insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his Lakshadweep visit.  He had called PM Modi a joker and shared his video.  However, as the protests increased, he deleted his tweet.  But opposition started increasing rapidly in India.  The government officially expressed its displeasure.
After India expressed its displeasure, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives had issued a warning of action against persons making derogatory remarks.  Then just an hour later, Maryam Shiuna and Malsha Sharif as well as Mahzoom Majeed, another deputy minister of the Youth Ministry, were suspended.  An official in the President's Office confirmed the suspension.
