The Indian Army is continuously increasing its military capabilities on the Chinese border.  For the first time, the Air Force landed an aircraft in Kargil at night and the Garud commandos aboard practiced landing and taking action in the dark.
With this landing, the capability to conduct military operations at all times of the day and night at the third airstrip in Ladakh has been achieved.  On the other hand, the Indian Army is purchasing small tents for its soldiers to be used in the harsh winters.
The Indian Air Force made a successful night landing of C130J in Kargil, Ladakh in the last week of December.  Despite the high altitude and hilly terrain, carrying out such a landing is very important for the Indian forces.
Earlier, apart from Leh in Ladakh, there was day and night landing facility only at Thoise Airstrip near Siachen Glacier.  After this landing, night landing facility has also been made available at an additional airstrip between Leh and Srinagar on the important highway connecting Siachen with the country.
