Many schemes are being run to economically empower the farmers of the country. Under the new initiative, farmers will be able to sell tur dal crop online. For this, a tur dal purchase platform has been launched by Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. He said that the country should become self-sufficient in pulses by December 2027. He also said that not even a single kg of pulses will be imported from January 2028. Registration can be done by farmers on the platform launched by the government.
On this online platform, farmers can sell their crops to NAFED and NCCF at Minimum Support Price (MSP) or market rate. Shah said that in the coming time, such a facility will be started for the farmers producing urad and masoor dal as well as maize farmers. The Union Minister transferred about Rs 68 lakh through DBT to 25 farmers for payment for the sale of tur dal through the platform.
Shah said that the country is still dependent on imports for many types of pulses except gram and moong. The minister said, 'The country should become self-sufficient in pulses by December 2027. We will not import even a single kg of pulses from January 2028.' He appealed to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and progressive farmers to spread awareness about the platform and encourage farmers to avail the facility.
He said that on the basis of more than two-fold increase in the minimum support price, the production of pulses in the last 10 years has increased from 19.2 million tonnes in the 2013-14 crop year (July-June) to 26.05 million tonnes in 2022-23. However, domestic production of pulses is still less than consumption and is dependent on imports. Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda, Minister of State for Cooperation BL Verma and Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Ashwini Choubey were also present in this program.
