Puri Shree Jagannath Temple Devotees: With the beginning of the new year, the doors of Shree Jagannath Temple have opened. A large number of devotees have come to have darshan of Lord Jagannath on the first day. The temple administration has also made dress code mandatory for the devotees wishing to enter from Monday (December 1). According to the new orders, consumption of gutkha and paan and use of plastic and polythene has been completely banned in the premises of this 12th century temple.
According to news agency PTI, an official of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said that devotees will have to wear decent clothes to enter the temple. Devotees coming to the temple wearing half pants, shorts, torn jeans, skirts and sleeveless dresses will not be allowed to enter the temple.
Male devotees came for darshan wearing dhoti and towel::
With the implementation of the rules, on the first day of 2024, male devotees coming to the temple to worship the Lord were seen wearing dhoti and towel and women were seen wearing saree or salwar kameez. On the very first day, a large crowd of devotees were seen gathering to have darshan of the Lord.
Strict rules implemented to maintain purity::
Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had earlier issued an order related to this and the police was also asked to enforce the ban. The official said that the ban on gutkha and paan in the temple premises is being implemented to maintain its sanctity. They said that fines are also being imposed on those who violate the rules.
