China New Defense Minister: China on Friday announced the appointment of Naval Commander General Dong Jun as its new Defense Minister. Beijing has taken this step two months after dismissing General Li Shangfu without any explanation. Let us tell you that China's top legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), had confirmed Li's expulsion in October.
Official media reported that Dong, commander of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), has been appointed defense minister by the NPC Standing Committee.
According to media, Dong has served in all major naval divisions of the PLAN. However, information about his age has not been given.
According to the news of 'South China Morning Post' published from Hong Kong, before becoming the top commander of the Navy in 2021, Dong served in the Northern Maritime Fleet which conducts regular maneuvers with the Russian Navy. He also served in the Eastern Fleet, which focused on potential conflicts with Japan.
Dong has also served in the Southern Command Theatre, which is responsible for the security of the South China Sea.
